Really? This person is really going to pretend that men think ENTIRELY different from women. Shows their age/ignorance. Why do women(and girls) ignore men over and over again when they explain to them that they are VISUAL creatures. It takes effort to control sexual desires as a man. Most women don’t think of most of the men they meet everyday in a sexual way. Unlike men who do. They say they do. So having rules regarding attire that isn’t overly revealing isn’t illogical or overbearing. It makes sense. But so many young people are so idealistic and lack any nuance into their philosophy of life(the same philosophy on life that will inevitably change with time and experience).

I’m not sure how old you are, but I see some ignorance. It’s not difficult to control yourself… at all. Do sexual thoughts happen? Certainly… but that is in no way a reason for ANY course of action just because some thought pops in your head. It’s not that men always think of every woman in a sexual way, they (we) just feel like we’re entitled to do so… but we’re not. Fellow men, get some control over yourself.

I’m far from ignorant. And I’m almost 30. I’m going by what I’ve seen in almost 3 decades of living. And what I’ve experienced.

I’m not talking about a guy losing control. I don’t know why you people are making it out to be that. I’m talking about whether or not revealing clothing is a DISTRACTION. Whether or not it’s APPROPRIATE. And it’s not. Not in a school or work setting. Simple as that.

I didn’t call you ignorant, just that there is some ignorance in the ‘boys will be boys’ line of thinking displayed. I apologize for the confusion. I’m not here to call people names.

If somebody’s clothes… revealing, dirty, torn, etc… are a distraction to you or make you respect them less as a person, that’s on you… not them. There could be any number of reasons, in any number of settings, school or work included, that dictate why they’re wearing something… and not the least of those reasons may be, because they want to, because they’re comfortable, because it’s all they have, because it’s 102 degrees out.

We all understand that certain parts of the body are deemed to be sexual and usually need to be covered up in public.. legs, necklines, shoulders… are not among them. The major point is, there are likely better ways to solve an issue of boys/men being distracted by people and things they desire… perhaps a better effort in educating them that all the things they see, don’t belong to them. And perhaps that instead of seeing short shorts as inappropriate, it’s really shamming, unweclome comments, reactions and staring that’s inappropriate and rude.

If the sight of nonsexual body parts (legs, shoulders, arms) is so much of a distraction to you that you cannot focus on your work, you are probably a danger to society. If nonsexual body parts are such a distraction to you that it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to accomplish your tasks, you are probably a predator.

Edit: Also, saying that ‘it takes effort to control sexual desires as a man’ is just excusing inappropriate and predatory behavior. Basing an entire dress code off the idea that men have problems controlling their urges, doesn’t look well on you as a gender and attempting to defend that behavior doesn’t look all that great either.

I’d also like to add that if you are an adult figure telling a female student to change her shorts or top in front of other boys, you are TELLING them that those shorts are distracting. you are putting that notion in their heads.

Remember: What you teach children when they’re children stays with them when they’re adults. It doesn’t magically go away when they turn 18.

So if you decide to teach girls that they have no body autonomy rather than teach boys boundaries and self-control, I question your fitness as an educator.

I really want a normal life. Boring in its normalcy—normal to the point of tears. I’d be cool working a day job, an office job, a 9 to 5 job. I’d be fine dressing in blouses and khakis and listening to middle class radio in my middle class car. I’d be alright not writing or painting or doing much at all, except maybe cooking dinner now and again and sitting down to watch the nightly news with my spouse. And every few years we’d have a family vacation and drive somewhere bland like Branson and take pictures of the buildings from our car windows. That sounds pleasant—perfect. I’m actually really bummed when I think of it not happening. I’m grateful for the people I have in my life and all the opportunities I’ve been given, but a good deal of them are too exciting for me. That’s it. There’s not a twist to this. I wish.

Lauryn Hill Ordered by the Court to Undergo “Counseling” Due to her “Conspiracy Theories”

The name of Lauryn Hill’s breakout album was The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill but it now appears that the powers that be would like her to record a new album called The Re-Education of Lauryn Hill. After appearing in court for tax evasion, Hill was sentenced to three months in jail PLUS she must attend “counseling” due to her “conspiracy theories”.

According to the IBTimes, Hill told the court: “I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them. I had an economic system imposed on me.” Furthermore, Hill also believes that artists are being oppressed by (what the article calls) “a plot involving the military and media”. Because of these statements, Hill was ordered to undergo “counseling”, which is a way of saying that she is mentally ill and that she needs some sort of re-programming session regain “sanity”.

In 2012, Hill published a thoughtful letter describing the corruption, the oppression and the control of the music industry and her desire to escape it. In one part of the letter, Lauryn states

“It was this schism and the hypocrisy, violence and social cannibalism it enabled, that I wanted and needed to be freed from, not from art or music, but the suppression/repression and reduction of that art and music to a bottom line alone, without regard for anything else. Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual. I Love making art, I Love making music, these are as natural and necessary for me almost as breathing or talking. To be denied the right to pursue it according to my ability, as well as be properly acknowledged and compensated for it, in an attempt to control, is manipulation directed at my most basic rights! These forms of expression, along with others, effectively comprise my free speech! Defending, preserving, and protecting these rights are critically important, especially in a paradigm where veiled racism, sexism, ageism, nepotism, and deliberate economic control are still blatant realities!!!”
